Springfield M1905 (Type III) trapdoor fencing rifle with fencing bayonet. Flayderman 9A-393, only about 1500 produced. Serial number 218672. Nice cartouche opposite lock with date of 1880. Made from a trapdoor rifle, shortened to M1903 rifle length, with hammer, rear sight, and sling swivels removed. Metal parts are a mix of strong original blue finish with areas of light to medium brown patina. Stock shows scattered marks expected from fencing practice, having some minor expected slivering to cleaning rod channel, and a small piece of wood missing above the lock that corresponds to a dent that probably came from parrying a stroke during practice. Barrel still has a fine rifled bore, but is not intended to be fired. Scarce fencing bayonet is boldly marked with date of 1906, leather covering is mostly original brown finish with some scuffing from use. Sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
