M1873 Springfield .45-70 "trapdoor" rifle. Serial number 65631. Early featured rifle with upgraded rear sight. Metal parts are smooth with a brown and plumb patina. Stock shows smooth wear overall, free of cracks and chips, showing scattered handling marks overall, particularly around the underside by the lower band, from having been rested while being fired.. Has an interesting script "P" cartouche in front of buttplate tang, and owner name "T.VAUGHN" neatly stamped behind upper barrel band. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
