Massive large bore single barrel percussion shotgun, marked on lock "W.W.KEYSER". William W. Keyser is listed as having operated in Philadelphia, PA from 1847-67 in Sellers' "American Gunsmiths". Has added engravings on barrel flats "HENRY DERINGER PHILA. PENNA." and "A. H. FRANKLIN PHILA. MISS." Gun weighs over 13 pounds with a 0.85" bore and a 42" thick-walled barrel with 8- and 16-sided breech portion. Metal parts are nicely engraved with untouched patina and some storage rust on the buttplate. Stock is equally heavily built with a nice grain character and patina, showing average wear and use with scattered handling marks and a couple worn heavier marks. Possibly has a small crack behind the lock, hard to tell because of the checkering pattern. There is some minor damage from moisture at the buttplate. Ramrod is too short for the barrel but displays well in the channel. Mechanically good, sold as a collector item only, not warranted safe to shoot.
